On Wednesday, November 20, another 32-kilometer section of the A7 highway, also known as the Moldovan highway, will be opened to traffic. This extension includes two sections on the road section between Buzău and Focșani: between Buzău and Râmnicu Sărat, namely the first and second sections (Buzău-Vadu Pașii and Vadu Pașii-Râmnicu Sărat). These join the 11 kilometers between Mândrești Munteni and Focșani already opened last week, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu announced on Friday at a press conference he held together with the head of the transport ministry, Sorin Grindeanu, after both of them carried out an inspection near Râmnicu Sărat. Transport Minister Sorin Grindeanu emphasized that this investment is part of the government's strategy, which aims to modernize the road infrastructure and regional economic growth. "This is another significant step in reducing the economic gap between the various historical regions of the country. Currently, you can drive on the A7 highway for more than 43 kilometers, and we will add another 85.45 kilometers by the end of the year. In total, by the end of the year, approximately 180 kilometers of new highway and we are opening an expressway, which is an important target in the development of road infrastructure for Romania". He added that in 2024, the entire A7 section will be completed under the National Recovery and Resilience Program, which includes 319 kilometers of highway, as well as the Brăila – Galați expressway (10.76 km), which is financed by the Transportation Program.
The Prime Minister, Marcel Ciolacu, also emphasized the economic and regional importance of the project, pointing out that the completion of the A7 motorway will bring serious benefits in terms of transport efficiency and attracting investors. "As I promised, we will completely open the road section from Buzău to Râmnicu Sărat, we can start traffic from Buzău to Focșani this month. Everything that I and the Minister of Transport promised, that by the end of the year, a 130-kilometer section of the Moldovan highway will be opened, as well as a section of nearly 50 kilometers between Ploiești and Buzău. The last section, which is still in dispute, but we have a similar momentum, and I would like to praise the builder for completing it within the stipulated deadline, because these sections were planned for the end of 2025, but they were completed much earlier," said Ciolacu. Currently, approximately 800 kilometers of highways and expressways are under construction in Romania. Transport Minister Sorin Grindeanu highlighted the government's role in supporting the construction materials market, taking into account the workforce needs of the future road infrastructure. Grindeanu drew attention to the challenges that arise during construction projects, which are caused by the huge material requirements. "When there is such a large volume of construction - almost 800 kilometers of highways and expressways are currently being built in Romania - it is inevitable that a huge amount of construction materials will be needed, be it construction materials or metal structures. The projects of the local authorities also require a large amount of construction materials," explained the minister. . In connection with the development of the infrastructure, the management of the Ministry of Transport announced that by the end of 2024, approximately 130 kilometers of motorways will be opened on the line of the Moldovan motorway, which is a significant step forward in the expansion of the motorway network in Romania.
