The purpose of the D4 highway was to relieve traffic in Bratislava, which is one of the most expensive projects in the country's history. However, it is only partially usable because the basic D1 and D4 nodes are missing. The situation will change now. The National Motorway Company plans to connect D4 and D1 by the end of November, which will result in traffic restrictions. According to the head of the company, Filip Macháček, they are currently working on expanding the roadway and renovating the previous sections, meanwhile preparations for the connection are also underway. However, some milestones require restrictions. The branch from Jarovce to Trnava will be connected to D1 between November 22 and 24.
Meanwhile, around 100 traffic signs are being put up and 25 kilometers of road painting is being done. The section will be closed at Zlaté piesky all the way to Senc. Between November 29 and December 1, the branch from Trnava to Rača is planned to be connected. During these days, traffic will be restricted while signs and road painting are being carried out. After that, the bypass around Bratislava will also be available from Trnava. The opening of the Triblavina intersection also contributes to the improvement of traffic, which motorists can use earlier than previously planned. In this way, the traffic situation in the vicinity of Bratislava can be significantly improved. The junction of D1 and D4 will be completely completed by 2025. According to the competent minister, after the start of full operation, increasing tolls are expected on the Prístavným bridge, so that motorists prefer to use the D4. Although the minister's optimism is obvious, the difficulties surrounding the project can be considered a failure. For many years, the bypass did not fulfill its purpose, while the state paid out significant sums of money to the contractor. Despite all this, the current opening is expected to benefit the traffic in the capital.
